Curriculum Overview

Students at Midvale Primary School all participate in the eight learning areas, as specified by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).​

English

Students are taught the skills of reading, viewing, writing, creating, speaking and listening using a Science of Reading approach and the following programmes:

  • UFLI Foundations - Synthetic Phonics

  • Heggerty - Phonemic Awareness

  • Jolly Phonics - Synthetic Phonics

  • Speech Language - Narrative Intervention

Science

Students develop their scientific understanding through engaging investigations and experiments, focusing on key areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth sciences. Our approach encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, helping students apply their knowledge to real-world contexts and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

The Arts

Students engage with The Arts through creative projects and performances, exploring visual arts, music, dance, and drama. This approach nurtures their artistic expression and imagination, helping them develop confidence and a deep appreciation for the diverse forms of creativity.

Technology


Students engage with Technology through hands-on projects and digital tools, exploring areas such as coding, robotics and design. This approach enhances their problem-solving skills and prepares them to innovate and adapt in a technology-driven world.

Maths

Students develop their mathematical abilities through engaging and hands-on activities, focusing on key areas such as number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. Our approach encourages students to explore, reason and apply their mathematical knowledge in real-world contexts.

Humanities and Social Sciences


Students delve into Humanities and Social Sciences through hands-on projects and investigations, exploring history, geography, civics, and economics. This approach fosters critical thinking and a deeper understanding of their place in a diverse and evolving world.

Health and Physical Education

Students participate in Health and Physical Education through dynamic activities and lessons that promote physical fitness, healthy living and teamwork. This approach supports their overall well-being and helps them develop essential skills for a balanced and active lifestyle.

Languages

Students explore Indonesian through interactive lessons and cultural activities, developing their language skills and understanding of Indonesian culture. This approach enhances their communication abilities and broadens their global perspective.
